Jacobs, Jeff, and Tim Archie. "Investigating Sense of Community in First-Year College Students." Journal of Experiential Education 30.3 (2008): 282-5. Print.
This source discusses a study of four thousand students about whether they felt a sense of community after one year at a university. The study included the different groups and clubs a student could join and found that students in greek life felt a better sense of community. I can use this source because our paper is related to a community that we would like to be in. This source will allow me to make my research paper more personal, and I can now talk about the reason I want to join greek life is because I do not feel like I have my home here yet. The disadvantages of this source is that it talks not just about greek life, but all groups a student can join. This site may not have enough information on greek life specifically that I could use. It also is a survey which not give me enough credibility.
Routon, Wesley, and Jay Walker. "Going Greek: Academics, Personal Change, and Life After College." Change 48.1 (2016): 60-6. Print.
This source discusses how going greek in college effects a student upon graduation. It focuses on life connections, involvement, and the difference in how someone views themselves. This relates to my topic because I wanted to focus on the positive aspects of joining a sorority on campus and what it would mean for me not just while I am in school, but after I graduate as well. It will hopefully allow me to develop an idea of what joining my community truly means. This source will contribute to the previous source. The previous source discusses more about greek life relating to schooling, while this source deals more with after graduation. This will allow me to gain a more well-rounded scope of my topic. The weakness of this source is that it does not seem to give much information on the opposite side of the argument.
Walker, Jay, Nathan Martin, and Andrew Hussey. "Greek Organization Membership and Collegiate Outcomes at an Elite, Private University." Research in Higher Education 56.3 (2015): 203-27. Print.
This source discusses information from a study about greek life and its effects on students in college. It goes into detail about the different aspects of college it can effect and how it effects them. The study is based off of a private, elite university. This source relates to my research topic because it describes what the advantages and disadvantages are of being involved in greek life. Since it is based off of a study, it will allow me to witness first hand opinions about what greek life means and what it encompasses. This source does not relate to my research topic because it is from a study of a private, elite university and Florida State is not private. Because of this, the information gathered may not directly apply to my specific community at Florida State. This source will give me basic research information that I can use to dig further into smaller topics within mine.
