Blog Post 4

I chose chapter four “the genre’s conventions” to blog about. This chapter talks about persuasion and writing persuasive pieces. In the beginning of the chapter, it talks about the three rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is establishing credibility. Pathos is emotional appeal. Logos is logistical appeal. These three rhetorical approaches are used in our day to day lives. I work part time in a retail store called Express. I never really thought about it until I read this section, but I use these three approaches every day when I am selling clothes to customers. I used ethos when I talk about our brand of clothes and present the customer with information of our different styles of dress pants and which style I like the best. I use logos when I compare our prices with prices from other stores, and also when I talk about how long our clothing lasts. I use pathos when I tell customers in the fits that something looks amazing on them. Persuasion and these rhetorical approaches are used in almost every aspect of our lives. Every advertisement uses them and so does the media. This chapter refreshed my memory on how to use these strategies effectively.
